Hahahahaaaaaaa! Okay. So this is not the video I was promising, (because I've found a new location to shoot half of the other video but now I have to wait until Nathan works again. And since he is part time unemployed.. it might be a few days..
A little back story on this video. . . I made it for two reasons.. I wasn't going to graduate if I didn't.. and two.. Nathan and I had this idea for a TEAM OMDS video project where upon each member would make their own video where there were only two things you had to work with to be included - 1) a chocolate rabbit, and 2) a person who believed the chocolate rabbit might be alive. I added some entertaining music to this version. Enjoy!
If you really like it I will put Nathan's up too.. and maybe that will encourage Tyrone to get his done. However Nathan, it needs to be ten minutes or less.

day four: on the phone
This is some entertaining footage of me on the phone with the unemployment office and the circuit court of whatever.. multnomah county. I was unsuccessful in my attempt to contact the direct loan center regarding my student loans. They want money. Jokes on them! I don't have any.. nor do I have anything of value such as a car or house.
In other news. I finally got to the bottom of what I already knew was a pointless tragedy only to find out that my original suspicions were correct and that girl pa is from the crew in new mexico. Diana was wrong. Oh well. I just wanted to know the answer! and now I do. So I actually feel a little better. Honestly.. the confusion is understandable.. the girl from la does exist.. she is just working in the office.. she happens to have the same name as the girl working on set.. who coincidently also exists. On the interesting side.. this whole incident has led to me introducing myself to the film office tomorrow.. I have to be on my best behavior! Yay! I love meeting important people for the first time.
Stay tuned for the next installment of the unemployment chronicles (it will most likely be a short film that I wrote!)
Ciao!

day three
OMG. Does no one have the answer to this question? Why did they hire that girl? That's all I want to know. No one seems to have the answer to anything.. including where she came from. It's a toss up between she was with locations in NM, she just moved here from L.A., she's an alien, the director liked her. .
Whatever. She can go to hell regardless of how she got the job. Although.. looking outside at the weather I'm terribly glad I'm not standing outside in it. The truth is I don't especially like PA'ing but you have to if you want to be an assistant director. This is where you say.. but you don't want to be an AD, do you? And I'd say, it's my second choice. then you say what's your first? and I say don't go there today.
And it's a catch 22, you seeee, because if I eventually make it into the DGA as a 2nd 2nd AD then am I no longer aloud to be a director's assistant because it's not a position belonging to the union? There are so many strange union rules and I don't know any of them.
But in other news I'm meeting with Jane Ridley from the film office on Friday. . .and for anyone who watched today's video.. I didn't do any of those things I said I was going to .. like call the unemployment office. I went to Gresham with Diana and picked up furniture. Then watched Pirates III and ate mini corn dogs from Aqui. mmm.. mini corn dogs..

day two
After I ate a delicious piece of french toast at Beaterville, I walked to the park with Nathan and Tyrone. The other day it was raining and I was going to get up and do this art project but for some reason I was distracted and I ended up not doing it. Fortunately for me, turning it into a TEAM OMDS project not only made the endeavour deeper and more meaningful, but allowed for better filming and ultimately more fun.
Later in the afternoon I stopped by Diana's to drop something off and heard that the girl who got my job, the job I totally had one second and didn't the next, just moved here from L.A. and some woman at the film office told the production that they HAD to hire her. WTF. Is this for real? I have half a mind to write that woman the most awful email. But I won't. That's something younger Jenna would have done but older Jenna knows better. Older Jenna is actually going to use this to her advantage.
It's only the second day of my new video blog and I'm already exhausted! It takes more than a whole day just to make one video! I had a goal of getting one up a day but I'm already backed up about half a day to make that happen. It's kind of awesome. It's like I get up and have to think of something to talk about or do and it takes all day just to do it, upload the footage, edit, render, export, upload, write, etc. I absolutely love today's blog though. Watch it and leave feedback. I love feedback. You can also tell TEAM OMDS what you think of our latest graffiti.
Nathan and Ty thanks for helping with today's unemployment chronicles. You rock. But dang Ty, I don't know how you draw so well when your hands shake like that.. maybe it's different when you're holding a camera.

day one
First and foremost though, this was supposed to be a video blog. I'd rather you watch the video than read anything I have to say. Watch first. Read later. I'm rad. You're rad. Let's hug.
well. Day one doesn't really mean day one of me being unemployed. It also doesn't mean it's a blog about being unemployed, although that will surely be a topic of conversation. It means it is day one of the video blog I started BECAUSE I'm unemployed. I haven't worked since December 20th, I think. Which isn't really that long ago.. considering the holidays and everything.
Today's topic was just a series of random venting, explaining, or character development. You have also been introduced to one of only a few supporting characters in my story. As the weeks progress I hope to move away from talking about myself and my troubles and have this blog develop into an entity for sharing not only thoughts but art, ideas, and humor. I will do my best to make the clips entertaining and not too lengthy. All criticism helps (as does support).
Another major goal of this project is to fine tune all of my skills as a filmmaker. I strongly believe almost all footage has value and can be presented in a visually stimulating way. The more I practice making videos the better I will get at the whole process.
The written blog contains some of the topics in the days video but usually has extra details. Sometimes things happen in the day that simply can't be caught on camera or must be deemed to late to make the morning press. I had to realize, at what point would I have to make myself stop filming? Otherwise this story would just be endless and I would keep adding more. My new philosophy as a director is get rid of it!! If it's not vastly important to the plot or character development get rid of it! Unnecessary footage can be the difference between someone watching your entire video and not watching it at all. If only I could limit my words in such a manner.

Welcome to the unemployment chronicles
Hi. My name is Jenna. I'm 25 and I live in Portland Oregon. I usually do freelance film production but as of recently I am unemployed. I had a mental breakdown on thursday when I realized (about a week later than I should have) that I wasn't going to get this job I had interviewed for. The disappointment sent me off the deep end.. and believe me.. the deep end in my pool is scary. So I laid in bed for 3 days crying and hating the world and everyone in it. Today I decided to make the most of my emotional state, and my time off, and do something that will hopefully distract me AND make me feel like an artist again. It's already working on both levels. I put in eight hours of work today and it felt great. Almost like working.
The GOAL = As close to one video a day as possible, before I get another job. Fine tune filmmaking skills of all varieties, distract from reality, entertain, and create.
Link Key
Say Rutabaga Extras Casting = Have you ever wanted to be an extra in a movie? Well now you have a very good chance. This is my friend Diana's company. Lots of movies come to Portland these days.. why not let them pay you to walk back and forth in front of a camera all day?
gayunicorn = my friend Angie's blog. If you like people who are smart, funny, and have razor sharp wit.. read her blogs. She gets paid to write.. so unlike most of us.. she is good at it.
Jerkspace = my myspace page. Not alot here except pictures of me and tons of melodramatic blogs about my life.
Tyrizzle = another brilliant artist friend. I guarantee his character design will leave you rubbing your eyes in disbelief.
Timid Beast = my best friend's art page. He creates amazing things, usually from other things. Check him out if you don't believe me. . .
